Mission

Amplifying African Voices

We exist to elevate contemporary African art on the global stage. Through thoughtful curation, intimate exhibitions, and meaningful collector relationships, we create bridges between Africa’s most compelling artists and the international art community.

Vision

A World Shaped by Art

We envision a world where African contemporary art is recognized not as a niche, but as a vital force shaping global culture. Every acquisition, every exhibition, every conversation brings us closer to this reality.

Original paintings in oil on canvas, made one at a time, on the artist’s own cadence. Each canvas leaves the studio with a written poem placed beside it.

The studio

Chike Onuorah works in oil on canvas from a studio in Lagos. He paints from a personal cultural lineage and on his own cadence. Each canvas is completed when it is completed, never on a release calendar.

The painting and the poem

Every original by Chike Onuorah leaves the gallery accompanied by a written poem from the artist’s own hand. The painting and the poem are placed together: one beside the other, two halves of a single object.

Representation

Ovico Gallery represents Chike Onuorah exclusively in North America. We place his work in private collections, family homes, and quiet professional environments where original painting matters.

Themes

Culture, identity, memory. Humanity, spirituality, emotional inheritance. Beauty and struggle. Legacy and the enduring power of original work.

These threads run through the African Woman, Faces, and Full Picture collections, where the canvas is at once portrait, essay, and inheritance.

CHIKE ONUORAH

Lead Artist
D’Artist Chike Onuorah, a 1988 Fine Arts graduate from the University of Benin, Nigeria, is the exponent of Splashillino, Plastillino and the Grass Series, art movements he has continually developed through the years. He has traversed different continents, engaging creative minds through his visual and literary works. He has also engaged in creative consultancy for many local and international organizations, over the years. A full-time studio artist, Chike Onuorah has exhibited his paintings in Nigeria, Senegal, United Kingdom, Germany, Romania, Jamaica, and the United States of America. Onuorah explains that “ The driving force is that instinctive desire to explore and conquer yet another creative possibility. To share with the world an additional experience which will never come into existence unless I engage. The totality of that experience and the joy of the creation, make the journey worthwhile. Every signature rendered on a piece of work, justifies my existence on the planet. This is my passion, my job, my hobby, my life, my everything.”
